MONUMENT TO THE BATTLE OF THE FRIGIDUS – THE CROSS OF THEODOSIUS
The T-shaped marble cross, erected in 1994, stands north of the village, along on the road to Col. The inscription says 394 Theodosius (in alphabet). It was designed by Lucijan Lavrenčič.
SCHÖNAU MANSION
It stands along the road between Vrhpolje and Vipava, by a meander of the Bela creek. The mansion is said to have been built around 1600, and sources first mention it in 1630, in the inheritance record of Baltazar Raumschüssel. In the middle of the 18th century, the Vrhpolje estate was owned by the Auersperg family, and in 1770 it was transferred to Franc Jožef Martinec. With his daughter-in-law Marija Martinc remarrying in 1843, the estate became the ownership of the Repič family, who kept it until the beginning of the 20th century, when it was sold to multiple owners along with the mansion. The L-shaped building complex used to enclose a large courtyard with high walls on the southern and western sides, which was accessed through a large vaulted entrance. What has remained from the entire complex today is a two-storey residential wing with a rectangular floor plan and a hipped tiled roof.
