Drago Bajc was a poet, newspaper reporter and anti-fascist born in Vipava. His life path ended when he was not even 24 years old. A year after his death, a tombstone dedicated to him was erected by his friends, colleagues and members of the TIGR anti-fascist organisation. It was made by sculptor France Gorše in secrecy, as it was the time of mass arrests by the Italian authorities.
The monument was brought in four parts to the Vipava cemetery, where it was erected in full secrecy. They were able to erect an almost three-metre tall obelisk, on top of which is a sorrowful white marble head, in a very short time. The monument was erected in such a way that the marble head is turned towards Yugoslavia, to where Drago Bajc was not able to escape. The sorrowful head also symbolises the hope and desire of the oppressed people of Primorska for freedom and for all Slovenians to live united.
