Gems of the Vipava countryside

From Vipava, we head towards the wine-growing village of Slap, where the first Slovenian wine-making and fruit-growing school was established in the time of the Duchy of Carniola. We head towards the village of Lože, where the 13th century Lože Castle stands on the right side of the vineyard-covered hills.  We climb through the village of Manče to the village of Goče, which is known for numerous vaulted cellars. We go past the Church of Saint Mary Major to the villages of Erzelj and Planina, where there are many sunny vineyards. From Planina, we descend back towards the valley through the village of Dolenje towards Ustja and the village of Plače to Vipavski Križ. In Vipavski Križ, we can visit an extensive library located in the Capuchin monastery, where John Baptist of Sveti Križ in Vipava (Tobia Lionelli) used to live. From there, we go back towards Vipava. We come across many other cultural sights on our way that takes us past Ajdovščina towards Vipava. In Log pri Vipava there is the Church of Mary Comforter for the Afflicted, where we turn left towards the village of Duplje, and then towards Vrhpolje, where the famous battle between Theodosius the Great and Eugenius took place in 394. From Vrhpolja we go back towards Vipava. 

Vipava → Slap → Lože → Manče → Goče → Erzelj → Planina → Dolenje → Ustje → Plače → Vipavski Križ → Cesta → Ajdovščina → Log pri Vipavi → Duplje → Vrhpolje → Vipava
